Whichever metal you choose, the ring will develop small scratches over time; this is inevitable, and the only way to prevent it is to wear your ring with care.
To look after your ring in the best possible way, it should not be worn in situations where it risks being scratched or worn abnormally, for example when gardening, washing up, cleaning, exercising or swimming. To prevent the ring from being scratched by other jewellery, it should be stored separately, preferably in the box it was delivered in.
CLEANING
Gold and platinum rings are best cleaned by placing the ring in lukewarm water with a few drops of standard washing-up liquid; feel free to use a soft toothbrush to scrub both the ring and the stone, and it will be clean and beautiful again!
We recommend that rings with diamonds are brought in at least once a year for a check of the prongs and settings, to ensure that all stones are securely set. We’re happy to help with this; read more and book your check-up here.
As standard, all our white gold rings are rhodium-plated, which means they have been dipped in a rhodium bath to achieve a whiter surface. This coating wears off over time, so you may need to have your ring rhodium-plated again after a while if you wish to maintain the white finish; how often this needs to be done depends on how the ring is worn, but once a year is a good guideline. Over time, all rings develop small scratches that cause them to lose their shine. If you have a red gold ring, this can easily be remedied by taking the ring to a goldsmith for polishing. If the ring is in white gold (and you wish to restore the white finish), rhodium plating is recommended. Please read more and order polishing (or rhodium plating) for your ring here.
When you buy a ring from Gold of Sweden, a free size adjustment is included within 30 days. If you wish to have the size adjusted at a later date, this can be done for a fee; see our prices for this here.

The first engraving is always free of charge, even if you choose to have it done later; however, a charge for insured postage will apply if more than 60 days have passed since you received your ring. If you wish to have a second engraving done, or would like to send in a (plain) ring from another supplier for engraving, you can easily order this here.
For our plain rings, you can choose between a glossy or matt finish as standard. It is important to note that, with different types of finish, the surface will wear over time and will need to be re-finished at regular intervals to retain its original appearance.
