What is a solitaire ring?
A solitaire ring or single stone ring, as it is also known, is a ring with a single stone set in it. The solitaire ring is the most classic of all diamond rings. It is a ring design that allows the diamond to take centre stage and is the obvious choice for those looking for a timeless and stylish ring. In our opinion, a solitaire ring can never be wrong. It is suitable as an engagement ring, wedding ring or the perfect gift! Solitaire rings are available in all price ranges, and it is primarily the size of the diamond that determines the price.
Should I choose a solitaire ring as an engagement or wedding ring?
In Sweden, it used to be most common to choose plain gold rings as engagement rings, but we feel that the trend has changed and that more and more people are choosing solitaire rings or other diamond rings as engagement rings for her. We think it is important to point out that there is no right or wrong choice here; it is you who decides what feels right for you! Perhaps you will choose a solitaire ring as an engagement ring and then combine it with a plain ring or a wedding band at the wedding. Or maybe you feel it is more appropriate to do the opposite and start with a wedding band or a plain ring as an engagement ring and then complement it with a solitaire.
What are the different types of solitaire rings?
The most popular choice of stone for solitaire rings is a round brilliant-cut diamond. But if you prefer a slightly different design, you can choose a princess-cut, cushion-cut or oval stone, which gives the ring a different look. When it comes to the setting, you can choose a setting with four or six prongs. Six prongs provide slightly better support for the stone. Four prongs, on the other hand, have the advantage of highlighting the stone better and providing sufficient support. Simply let your personal taste decide. The same applies to the choice of shape and design of the setting. Are you attracted to a simple and clean setting or a more elaborate design? The choice of design affects whether the ring is perceived as romantic, classic or more modern. Are you drawn to rings with a low or high setting? Many people are afraid to choose a higher setting because they think it will get in the way in everyday life, but in our experience this is an unfounded concern as the design of the ring quickly becomes a matter of habit.
Should I choose a lab-grown or natural diamond for my ring?
We find that people's preferences for the type of diamond in their ring are very individual. Many people feel that the charm of a diamond lies in the fact that it was formed in nature under the earth's crust millions of years ago. For others, it is more important to make as sustainable a choice as possible, and in that case, lab-grown diamonds, with their low carbon footprint and minimal environmental impact, are an interesting alternative. In terms of price, lab-grown diamonds are approximately 20-50% lower than natural diamonds, which means you can get a larger lab-grown diamond for your budget.
What size diamond should I choose?
When choosing the size of a diamond, there are two main aspects to consider: budget and personal taste. Do you prefer a large stone that attracts attention or a smaller, more practical model with a smaller stone?
The idea is probably that you will wear your ring every day for many years, so think about what feels best for you. Whether you choose to buy one of our standard diamonds or request a quote for a diamond of a different quality, you can rest assured that we have selected your diamond with care and experience. Please ask us about the price of a diamond that is just below one of the even carat weights, e.g. 0.95-0.99 Ct, if you want a 1.00 Ct diamond. This can be a good way to reduce the price!
Can I choose a moissanite or coloured stone for my solitaire ring?
If you are looking for an affordable alternative to diamonds, you can choose a moissanite for any of our rings. Moissanites are manufactured using similar methods to lab-grown diamonds and are very similar to diamonds in both appearance and properties, but at a significantly lower price. We also offer sapphires, topazes, morganites, aquamarines and several other gemstones in different colours and shapes. Please contact us for more information and pricing details.
Which gold colour should I choose?
Our rings are made from 100% recycled 18K gold. We offer red gold, white gold and rose gold as standard, but if you would like a ring in a different colour, such as yellow gold, we can of course arrange this. One advantage of choosing red gold or rose gold is that you can go down a grade or two in the diamond colour, e.g. I-J, as the diamond will still reflect the colour of the gold and you will not notice if the diamond has a warmer tone. However, if you want the diamond to appear colourless in a white gold ring, we do not recommend a colour grade lower than H, which is our standard.
What can I match my solitaire ring with?
Solitaire rings are very easy to match with different plain rings or eternity rings. A plain ring gives a classic and stylish impression, while an eternity ring is suitable for those looking for a more exclusive feel.
Whatever ring you choose to match your solitaire ring with, it is important to consider whether the two rings are the same height and whether their designs allow them to sit close together. Most of Gold of Sweden's solitaire rings are designed so that they can sit close to another plain ring or eternity ring, which many people consider to be a positive feature.
